Mr. Sumit Gupta

Alstone Group's Managing Director

Sumit was twenty-three years old when he came across the concept of Aluminium Composite Panel while on a trip overseas and envisioned a great future for it, in the construction and building sector. In 2003, he took on the manufacture of ACP within the country and has never looked back since.

Today, some two decades into the business, Mr. Sumit Gupta looks back as an ACP evangelist and is an enthusiastic and energetic businessperson who believes in furthering new lines of business growth and management expertise. Coming from a family with an entrepreneurial DNA, he has inherited their traditional business acumen and foresight.

The last fiscal year 21-22 has been looking up
with a turnover of Rs 550+ crore for the group
and Sumit knows that the only way to go –
is upwards and forwards.

When asked to name challenges in the ACP sector, Sumit recalls how difficult it was to source the right quality raw material and manage cost overheads. Also, the acceptance of a new product and so is its gestation period. Imported direct competition has also been a source of concern.

His goalposts for the next 5 years will be to add new product lines to the Alstone portfolio – There is an advanced running plant for manufacturing in Dehradun and by 2023, there will be a new dedicated unit for honeycomb material manufacture as well as materials exterior cladding and more innovative and improved product lines.

Further, Sumit would like to accelerate as well as diversify the firm’s turnover, expand its footprint both within the region as well as broaden the sites of manufacturing throughout the country.

At 40, with an MBA qualification and armed with foresight, in-depth industry knowledge, competence, and commercial ability - he has powered the Alstone Group to scale new heights and redefine goals.

He has shown boldness and unwavering single-minded focus in enhancing value and setting higher standards. His vision and directives - implemented by a talented and determined core team - all experts in their professions, have paved the way for the company's trail-blazing expansion.

Some Milestones to Sumit’s credit

Having executed several greenfield projects in areas such as ACP,HPL and Sheet Glass, Sumit tasted success by completing the project ahead of schedule and hitting breakeven within a very short period.

As someone who possesses tight fiscal management skills, Sumit doesn't believe in relying on outside resources to run the firm. Instead of deploying funds for expansion goals, he prefers to clear his external debts first

He possesses sound judgment and domain expertise in his chosen industrial sector, how it works, and, more significantly, how it is expected to shape up in the short, medium, and long term. He has a proven history of effectively negotiating deals that have been of benefit to the group.

Foraying into innovative and futuristic new material such as Aluminium composite honeycomb – ‘Alcomb’ divisions are also yielding positive results and are likely to be excellent revenue streams in the times ahead.

When asked what he does when he is not working – pat comes the answer is: travelling to exotic places, and spending time with the family. Sumit credits his spirit of can-do and innovation to his father – who remains a constant stream of inspiration. To cater to the Middle East market, we have set up Emerge UK in Dubai, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and manufacturing unit is already bringing out pioneering product fire-retardant Aluminium Composite Panels.

The glass sector is looking up already in the form of Emerge Glass, which is into manufacturing of thickened glass ranging from 1mm to 3mm thickness, unmatched in the industry with a capacity of 210 TPT with 3 production lines. Interesting product lines have opened up in the niche area of glass container manufacturing, under the name of Emerge Container Unit this year with similar capacities and are likely to accelerate further. As Mr. Gupta looks out at another bright day, we know that there will be many milestones to achieve.
